If you fancy playing golf on top of the world then you must certainly include in your holiday itinerary a visit to the Royal Thimphu Golf Course. At a height of 2,400 meters above sea level, the scenic but tricky nine-hole golf course lets you rent clubs, balls and gloves and allocates helpful caddies to make your tee-off time truly memorable.

Touted as the world’s highest golf course, it was built by an Indian Army officer during his posting in Bhutan in the early 1970s. Situated opposite the Tashichho Dzong that houses the Throne room and His Majesty the King’s office, The Royal Thimphu Golf Course covers a total of 2,800 yards and makes for a truly amazing game. For some, the altitude can be a challenge but don’t let that deter you from a once-in-a- lifetime experience.
